What are your thoughts on the prospects of an “emergency vaccine approval process”? 

Just the term "emergency vaccine" is a bit daunting to begin with.  It sounds rushed and not really tested.   Going off the time frame that other vaccines have taken to be produced , and they think they will do it in almost 1/4 of the time, seems a bit sketchy to me.  I, will not be getting a vaccine for covid, no matter what they say the trials are producing. "emergency vaccine approval" sounds like it something that will be passed through whether it works or not,  but at least it will look like someone is dong something.

 

 

 

2. “…people can..start having imagined side-effects”

(Side-effects could be all in the mind)

What is your own view on these “placebo” and “nocebo” effects?

 

Well,  the mind is the most powerful tool that we have as a human.  It can create chaos in the body or bring peace and tranquility.   As long as the mind is believing that it is being healed,  it will heal,  whether it is the medicine it really needs, or if it is a placebo.  I have reached a point in life that no matter what it is that makes someone happy and healthy, let them do it or have whatever it is that makes them happy.  As long as there is no harm to others,  have at it, we all have to do what we have to do...

Self Reflection Week 1

  Your thoughts on today’s class:   I really enjoyed our first class.  It was very nice to see familiar and new faces.  This class is a great mixing pot of all the years students at the Academy.  Some on their way in, some almost out, and others still in the thickit of the mess of school and studying.   But Larry's classes always bring about a good conversation as well as some mind opening new ideas.  and if those topics for class don't do it,  there is always someone willing to share their perspective, which may be a whole new light to shine on a subject. We have a rather large class this time with Larry, which I am enjoying.  So many new ideas and perspectives to listen to, as well more people to keep the conversations going.  I really enjoyed the topics for class as well, and look forward the this weeks topics also.  I think Larry has a good plan for this term and I am looking forward to all the classes for BioChem. Self reflection

 My thoughts on today's class....  I have really enjoyed every class we have had so far and i love the diverse group that we have also.  I really enjoy hearing the other points of view, the way we agree on certain topics (vaccines) and hearing someone express themselves.  the breakout rooms are wonderful for the size of the class, and having those mixed up every week is wonderful as well.  I get to talk to people that, given the current social stuff going on, might never have been able to have these talks with other people.  Whether they are like minded or not, these are all good people who are sacrificing their time and lives for the betterment of others, and that is commendable.
